作品描述

The Continence of Scipio is an oil on canvas painting by the Italian artist Giambattista Pittoni, created around 1732–1735. It depicts the moment when Scipio Africanus, the Roman general, refuses to take a captive woman for his own, showcasing his virtue and restraint. This painting is the counterpart to Polyxena in Front of the Tomb of Achilles, also by Pittoni, and is housed at the Louvre in Paris.
