This painting depicts the assassination of Jean-Paul Marat, a radical French politician and journalist, by Charlotte Corday in 1793. The scene shows Marat's body lying in a bathtub, surrounded by the tools of his murder, with a note from Corday on the floor. The work is a replica created by the workshop of Jacques-Louis David, who was a prominent figure in the French Revolutionary period.
